HE IS PISSING ME OFF! he is bored. alone in a 50gal. he bangs on the heater, broke 2, that is a shock in more ways then one. bangs hard on the lids, broke one glass lid, knocked it off the tank. can I get him a toy? he is like a dog! likes golf balls. he can carry one in his mouth. but I am afraid he will brake something, like the glass, he bangs on it with it in his mouth.:p

I have to scrape the glass with my hand because he will kill anything living, no plecos, but have not tried spiny to mcuh $$ tried snails. nope. he could not kill them, so he burried them under about 6 inches of rock. but I do not want to get rid of him, he is a great social fish. likes TV, especially boxing. TV is next to the tank.

heater guards...they're not expensive...or if you have an x-large filter, you can put it in there.

You could try using ping pong balls to "entertain" your Red Devil. My buddy used them for hios large arrowanas & I've got them in with my Labiatum. Better than golf balls......

i dont know what filter you havebut, i use emperor 400 and i can fit a 300watt visi-therm heater sideways , just under the lip to the filter. works good in two ways.

1. the fish cant get to it cause...well the filter is in the way
2. the current from the water comming out of the filter pulls the heat with it.

ive had it like that on two of my tanks for 4 years now no probs with the heaters being sideways yet, and i havent melted the filters either. maybe your heater will fit behind your filter the same way
