new haven ct.
i need pictures of oscars eyes or maybe even front on facial shots.

i know they look a little "buggy" to begin with, but i sort of need to know how much.

a month or 2 ago i bought a sick baby oscar. i felt bad for it i guess, i really shouldn't have gotten it...... i think it's a female and her colors were great in the store. she didn't appreciate the ride home and got pretty mopey after being added to her new tank. her eyes seemed to be getting "popeyed" after the first couple days so i went ahead and treated her with maracyn2 for a full cycle. the problem seemed better after the medication and her color had mostly improved and her temperament had gotten better. she was good for a couple weeks, but now her eyes seem like they are starting to protrude again. she's also taken to moping around the tank again and her color is off. i have started to dose with furan2 now as it's a broader spectrum antibiotic than the maracyn2 (was only gram negative).....

i just need some pictures to compare her eyes with tho. maybe i'm a bit paranoid about the popeye, i'm used to smaller cichlids actually. i'd hate to be treating her needlessly, but her attitude and color still says "somethings wrong".

she's in an overstocked, but over-filtered 30g atm. i have been hesitant to move her to the 90g until i know she's well. the water parameters are good and i did about 80% in water changes and also vacuumed in the 2 days before i started treating the tank again.

she actually seems to be "perking up" a little now, but this treatments only run 21 hours.

ah, she has been eating excellently also.

any pictures you can get would definately be helpful, also any advice if you have any new ideas. i *think* it's just a stubborn bacterial infection but i could be wrong. i also picked up a broad based parasitic medication (hexamit), but i can't use that until this medicine is done.

I have a few front shots of my oscar...

Do these help?

yes, they help, thanks. :)

nice pics and fish too!

pretty much what i remembered, the eyes are pretty big even when they're healthy. i might be slightly paranoid overall, but something seems to be "wrong" anyway. she has been pretty shy to begin with, but she was starting to recognize me and even taking food from my fingers. then she went back to hiding on the bottom, like she did when i first got her. it's almost the end of day 2 of the meds and she's been alot more active and friendly so i'm assuming the meds must be working tho.

as i write this she's prowling the tank looking for more food even tho i already gave her 4 servings of beefheart as a treat. that's the one good thing about it, her appetite has been good all along.

i'm a sucker for doing it, but i got her from a nasty wal-mart tank. she was hanging around the back with a dead algae eater hanging out of her mouth. for some reason it just seemed like she was a fighter and deserved a chance to live.......... all the other oscars in with her just seemed like they were starving. :(

owell, thanks again, almost time for a water change and to redose the tank. :)

Does she just stay on the bottom and move every once in a while? My male convict does this. He will sit on the bottom and sometimes it looks like he is dead but he then moves to another spot and does the same thing. He also has a sore next to his mouth but it seems to be going away. I know he is healthy because I just added a female in there with him and they just laid eggs 2 days ago. He is starting to chase the other fish in the tank around as well(I have a german blue ram and a small angel along with feeder guppies in the tank with them) since he is going to be a daddy soon. I know the guppies are going to try and eat the fry but I'm not to worried about the fry as they are feeder guppies and mommy and daddy will protect them(I hope). I'm not sure what it is. Maybe they are depressed. Do they make paxel for fish? :p

you lucky punk. If only I had Oscars instead of these africans I could rule the world. but seriously they are nice fish, congrats.
