Hi gang,

I'm fairly new to the Saltwater hobby. I set up my first tank back the end of May and it is currently up and running well. It is a 40 gal long and has an inch or so deep sand bed covered by a light crushed coral layer. I have about 20 or so lbs of live rock (I keep getting a bit at a time) and a few coral decorations. I have a power head moving water and an airstone in the opposite corner. For now, until I get a larger amount of LR, I use a power filter to help clean the tank water and it has been working very well for me.

I have seen these cute fish ... Dog Faced Puffers ... in the LFS that I buy all my saltwater needs from and was wondering if they are a good fish to keep? The ones in the store are about 4-5 inches long and on their price slip they are refered to as Med. in size ... how big do they get? Are they a good community fish? What do they need to eat if different than the regular marine foods I currently feed? (Mysis, Brine, Formula, Squid, Krill, Algea and tiny Marine pellets)

In my tank now are ...
2 false percula clownfish
1 pearlscale butterfly fish
1 scooter blenny
2 lg. emerald crabs
2 serpent stars
a couple dozen hermit crabs (red and blue legged)
a handful of turbo snails (of which I only ever see 1-2)
1 feather duster
1 coral banded shrimp

Any advice would be appreiciated. THANKS!

The puffer will most likely make a meal out of your snails and crabs, so that's something to think about. It should also be kept in a tank larger than 40g.

They won't work for your tank as they will get 1 foot long and will destroy all inverts. Plus you have a few fish in there that wouldn't do well with them. If I were you I would look into getting a Pseudo or Gramma or something like that and call it a tank. I wouldn't do a Dogface puffer in less than a 100g so hope this helps and good luck.
