I purchased my aquarium used and it appears that the original owner left the aquarium about half ful for several months in their gargage. There is a film of some sort on the glass above where the water line was. Is there any way to remove this that is not toxic to what is already in the aquarium?

Did you try wetting the glass and then using a new razor blade to scrape the whatever it is off the glass?

Actually not sure if you have to wet the glass to scrape it.

yes tried a razor blade and semi abrasive pad. There are inverts (snails and hermits in the tank) do not want to harm them. Any other suggestions?

Without emptying the tank, not really. You can try a razor blade--that will work for most things.

If you can empty the tank, Oxyclean. Fill the tank with hot water, add oxyclean, soak for 30-60 minutes, scrub with a nylon pad, and rinse. Works wonders, no toxic residue, fish safe. I've used it on pretty well everything.
