a 200 gallon long custom to be about 12+ft long, then have powerheads on one side and pumps on the other pumping to the powerheads side. Creating a river with fast flowing water.

I have seen drawings of some one elses river on a much smaller scale.. but not done it myself

that would only give you about 1 foot deep or so at a guess. (200g @ 12ft length)

my friend has a 250g that's 6 or 8 ft long and setup sort of like that. a much more efficient way to do it would be a sump system. you put a couple outlets on one end and a big pump in the sump pushing water in from the other end.........

what you're describing also has a top and a bottom current and in a shallow setup it probably would just make a mess. the top of the water would need to go one way and the bottom the exact opposite in a sort of "loop".

my suggestion would do what you want to do alot better i believe....

good luck

I've seen them smaller scale, and much larger (ie, true flow through, with about 1200 gallons total. I think you'd need to have quite a few powerheads along the sides, pointing 'downstream', as well. And of course, a few well placed rocks and wood to help create eddies, and pool flows as well.

i think my friends runs about 1,000 gph, and it sounds like it is a "flow-thru" type.

otherwise it seems like you're just creating an "eddy" with the layering of currents.

/shrug just a idea not sure if ill ever do it, wana do dwarf puffer tank and pond in basement first :X

200gallon was just a guess, would rather have it be about 12x3x2, which is alot bigger then 200gallons.

a sump would be much ore efficient i agree

If it was me, I would build it to look like a stream--side views would be limited to pools and a few riffs, but mostly have top viewing areas. Actually construct a stream bed, with twists and turns and some angle, with a sump. Then you could pile the edges with bog plants, and have nifty pools, etc. Think it would be cool, and you could have areas where the riffs were only 1-2 inches deep, providing lots of surface agitation, and some limited moving of fish from pool to pool.

You could evan have it run through your house from one room to the next. Put the filter at the end and pump the water back up to the top for the next run.
