Q-Tank Filtration Question

Hi All,

I have a 10 gal Q-Tank with 10 lbs of LR and 10 lbs live sand (~1" deep). Is this sufficient bio filtration that I can remove my biowheel?

I have been getting excessive algae growth and suspect the Nitrate loving biowheel might be a cause? If so I plan to remove the wheel but maintain the powerhead and diffuser, for increased oxygenation, running through biowheel housing minus the actual wheel.

What are peoples thoughts on this matter?
