Hi.

So I have a 75 gallon thats been running for a year that has 3 pairs of convicts and a Red Devil that's a little over a year old (about 7") and I have an empty 55 gallon custom that is built taller than long.

Next week I'm recieving two 4" channel catfish that I promised I would take from someone and I probably wont be able to afford a bigger aquarium for at least a year.

How should I arrange the fish in these two aquariums?

My thoughts are either:

A - 75g: Red Devil, 2 Channel Cats
55g: Convicts

B - 75g: Red Devil, Convicts
55g: 2 Channel Cats

Right Now I'm leaning towards B because everything has been functioning well in the 75g.. my only problem with that is that the 55 is not very long and seeing how channel cats are bottom dwellers it wouldnt be to their advantage.

What are your suggestions?

I would go with A. The channels are going to get over a foot long (which is the width of the 55g). The convicts won't be too upset with being moved and their pretty rugged fish... I don't think you are going to mess anything up by moving them.

Actually, channel cats can get over 2 feet long, even approaching 3 feet or more.

I have a suggestion, put the convicts and Red devil in the 75 gallon and the channle cats in the 55 gallon and feed them tons of food. When they get too big for the tank have a nice catfish dinner. Channel cats are quite tasty.:p heh heh......

yeah and if you're not a big fish eater give em to me......mmmmmm

or you could get some other type of fish for the 55 gal, IMO channel cats arent really suited to an aquarium.

Yea, we have a couple hundred of them in a large pond and they manage to eat the Blue Gill and Red Ears. And these blue gill are bound to be larger than cichlids. It seems that the bass and koi are the only thing they leave alone and they are much larger than anyting you could put in a 55 ot 75 gallon aquarium.

I promised someone I would take the fish off their hands and take care of them, because believe me, if it were up to me they would be put into my fishing pond outside.. lol.. so I think Im going to put them into the 75 with the Red Devil and move the convicts to the 55. Thanks for suggestions everyone.
