i would like to know if anyone else raises guppies, or other fish, for their cichlids. im just starting a 10 gallon tank with three males and 10 females. my big question is when the females give birth will the fry get eaten. should i put the females in a birthing isolation or what? any replies will be appreciated. thanks.:)

Most of the fry will get eaten if you don't provide cover for them. The other thing too is that I'd reccomend you start with the feeder guppies, they are a heck of a lot more prolific and a lot more hardy. But if you already have Fancies then they will do fine. Best cover for fry I've found is to have a large amount of java moss in the tank, they fry can hide in it. If you can too I'd reccomend finding another tank to raise the fry separate from the parents and your survival rates will greatly increase. If things go well, especially with that many females your gonna have a load of fry on your hands pretty quick. We just had one of the female fancies we keep give birth, and estimate she had 30-40 fry, I've heard of some giving birth to double that. Good luck!

I must be absolutley retarded but hats off to ya. I've never held a stable guppy tank and never had them breed so gl.

Its not hard, lol almost as easy as the convicts, IE add water add fish, then population explosion
