just a quick question, i am building a canopy for my 75 gallon, and wanted to know if i could use and florecent lighting fixtures? like could i just get a cheap on from home depot or lowes? thanx guys

Aquarium Hobbyist (http://www.ahsupply.com/) has some great retrofit compact fluorescent fixtures. Normal output fluorescent, like you find at Home Depot, will be fine for fish, but inadequate for photosynthetic invertebrates like corals and clams.

I bought a shop light 48" with the double strip for $7 at Lowes. it would have cost $100 at my lfs! with the plug as well. Looks remarkably well for a shop light even though I do have a canopy over it.
