I am not sure if Excel is good for chain-swords.

May want to stop the Excel dosing and see what happens.

Hmm, I guess I'll lose the chain swords cause the rest of the plants are doing great. Although I am considering breaking down and actually getting co2. Thanks

well worth the investment, especially in a high light tank like that. Get yourself some dry ferts while you're at it and you'll save moolah!

The chain sword on my tank is just starting to make a comeback since the addition of CO2. It was starting to break down like you were describing and turning all brown. I just added a DIY co2 setup and already it seems to have perked back up and is growing new leaves already.

My chainsword was getting brown in my 30 this past week and I believe it was from getting shaded by another plant. It really was growing to fast anyway so I yanked it . I recently yanked the carpet out of my 125 and replaced it with Ludwigia Repens. I believe once this grows in that it will for one, look better and two , not produce more plants by runners like the chain swords do.
Was yours thick ?

when I got them a month ago they were thick. It was suggested that they may be easier than micro sword. The micro sword seems fine. I need to get my KH/GH in order before I go to co2 though.

baking soda will take care of your kh. barr's gh booster or seachem replenish should take care of your gh.

I am not sure if Calcium Carbonate will raise PH, but is good for Kh. .
