My sal. is 40 PPT and specific gravity is 1.030. How do I lower it to normal levels? Thanks

Siphon out a little saltwater and add dechlorinated tapwater or distilled bottled water gradually till the levels come down. Hope this helps!

It's good to get into the habit of adding water daily to offset evaporation. Over time, you get to know how much you need to add to keep the specific gravity where you want it.

thanks for the info. This is one of the things that no one told me and the 2 books I have say to keep both balanced, but don't tell you how. I have been adding distilled water, a little everyday into the sump (3 gallons in a month) but it still does not go down. I will siphon some water out and add distilled if that's ok. Thanks

3 gallons is probably not enough to replace the evaporated water, unless you have a very small tank. We have 180 gallon system, and it goes through 5 gallons every other day. I just set up a 10 w/15 gallon sump, and I expect it to need ~ half gallon top off daily.

I have an evaporation line in my sump and the tank level stays right on. I have 110 gal tank and I fill it in the sump to keep it at the marked line in my sump. It has only required 3 gal due to evaporation. Maybe because of my room humidity or temp in the room or tank? Who knows?
