My tank: 75g FOWLR, been up and running 2 months ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 15. 1000gph pumping, CPR Bak Pak 2R. Stocked with 2 peppermint shrimp, 1 royal gramma, 2 false perc's, 3 snails, 4 hermits and 1 emerald crab. Here's my questions

1. I got a bangai cardinal and put in in about a week ago. He wouldn't eat and all he did was tread water in one corner of my tank. He had no other signs of distress, normal color, breathing, body shape. Well one day I came home and he was stuck to the intake of my powerhead. He wasn't dead when I shut the powerhead off, he tried to swim some, but died shortly after? I don't know if maybe my tank had too much current for him or if he just never settled in. I have rockwork for him to swim in and out of? The other tankmates completely left him alone too? Any ideas?

2. My 2 clowns are great, they eat like pigs, swim with and against the current of my powerheads all day. But they don't hide at night and "sleep" like my gramma. They do stay in one corner, but they are constantly treading water. My gramma hides under a rock and pops out when the lights come back on. Is this normal?

If the cardinal was not eating, that's the problem. While fish can take a while to get acclimated, they should begin eating within 2-4 days. The current is not a problem--fish get stuck to powerheads when weak or sick.

The clowns--sounds pretty normal.

I agree. My clowns don't really seem to sleep, but have been hungry, fat and happy for years.
NOt sure about the cardinal. Sounds like it wasn't well from the beginning. Was it wild-caught? There was a thread on reef Central some time ago about a high incidence of parasitic infections in wild-caught banggai cardinals.

I'm not sure if it was wild caught or not, but you are right, it never seemed to acclimate to it's new home. I'm happy to say my clowns are eating like 2 pigs as well!
