Hello Again,
Here are some pictures of my tank, including a few of the wisteria, which is giving me some problems. Hopefully these closeups are clear enough to show the dark and shriveled condition of the older leaves. First the specs: 29 gal, 3 1/2 years old, 55 watt CF 10 hrs/day, DIY co2. Dosing is: Flourish, Flourish Iron, Excel, N,P, and K. Test results show:
P O.5-1.0 ppm; N 10 ppm, Fe 0.5 ppm on the average. Ammonia and Nitrite always zero. I have 20 tetras, 6 rasboras, and one 5" SAE.
I am wondering what might be causing the poor condition of my older wisteria leaves. I have noticed similar discoloration on some of the Java Fern leaves, even though others immediately adjacent are a clear green. Any ideas? Thanks.

Looks like algae. I think with so much plants you are not getting enough CO2.

i vote bba. diy co2 fluctuates with temperature and age of the mixture. when co2 fluctuates it can cause bba. how large of a water change do you do every week?

you already have excel so here's what you can do. turn your filters and powerheads off so that you have no water circulation. use a syringe and apply excel very slowly over the affected areas so that it kinda floats over the area with the bba. i usually let it sit for about 5 minutes before turning the filters back on.

also you have a pretty densly planted tank. you can probably use 2-3 times the amount of excel recommended on the bottle.

it also looks like you have some bga growing down in front of the tank where the glass meets the substrate

Thanks a lot, that answers everything: the problem, cause, and solution. One more question: might I be better off with pressurized co2? It's really not practical for me to add a 2nd bottle to my DIY setup.

pressurized is a lot less of a headache. best thing i've ever done for my tank was go pressurized. if you can afford it i would say definately
