Filter and tiger barbs

1-for a small 5 gal tank i have a whisper 5-10 that i broke down a week or two ago. the filtrer carteriage was only about two weeks old. I put it in a ziplock and sealed it. There has been steam or condessation on the inside of the bag the whole time is it still good. it is circulating the 5 gal tank right now and i want to turn it into a small cold water tank would the filter still be good or get a new one

2-I bought 4 tiger barbs for my 20 gal tropical tank and this one that is smaller than the rest seems to spend more time to himself teh nwith the other three. is this natural. will he group or school with them more as he ages.

I had a small school(5) of tiger barbs a few years ago and there was always 1 that seemed like an outcast...he was always by himself and never ever really swam with the others...he never did either but he seemed just fine.

is 3 with one outcast a good number. i read that they should be kept with 5 or 6, but the lfs said 4 would do
