I had one sag in her for a long time, but today, I did the first wave of real planting.

3 more sags on the back wall to create a sort of curtain back drop.
1 plant (whose name I can't remember I have a pic, please name)
and plenty of Java moss to cover up my rock formation.

I will get a few more of the one whose name I can't remember, more moss as the rock formation grows, and I think that will be it.

How should I care for my new little aquatic garden? I have this plant gro stuff, which made a definite improvement of my first sag. Is anything else needed? Thanks.

<-- unknown plant.

The unknown is anubias nana.

I'm not sure of how much and what type of lighting you have there..but it looks to be a low-light set-up. All you really need for this tank is a good liquid fertilizer like flourish and possibly some flourish excel. It looks like you have ordinary gravel in there so you might need to add a supplemental root fertilizer to the gravel near the roots of the sag. It also looks like you have some black brush algae growing in there..you might do well to trim all the infected leaves off and discard them. It's a good start, but you need some more plants in there to out-compete the algae. Some water sprite would look nice in there.

I'll trim the sag tomorrow then. I did see the algae, but I didn't think there was anything abnormal about that. Now I know, thank you. Yes, its a low light set up with normal fine gravel. I have a liquid fertalizer that I use, but I'll look into the gravel fertalizer.

I like the look of the water sprite, I'll see if my store carries it next time I go. Will it work in low light?

I tink I'd like some medium level plants to put behind the rocks. And slow low plants to put in front. I don't really want to upgrade to high light... I'm cheap, dont' feel like buying a new head unit. What plants would you recomend for me to do this? I know because its low light that my options are limited, but I like the look of low light.

If you said it, I missed it....how much light is over the tank?

I honestly don't know. Its the bulb that came with the head unit, which came with the tank. It's probably 25 watts or less. When I get home, I'll see if I can find that. As I recall correctly, the bulb came already installed, not even in its own box, so I was never given any real idea of how many watts it was.

If I could upgrade to high light with out replacing my head unit, I will. I'd like to have more plant options. OR, if I can upgrade for less than 50, I'll concider. I knwo I'm being cheap, I love my fish and my plants, but they are't my top priority.

It's probably a 15 watt.
You will need 1 - 1.5 watts/gal. minimum to grow low light plants successfully.
