I have a 60 gal hex with a maxi-jet 900 powerhead and a 30-60 aqua tech spill filter. I would like to put 3 or 4 angels, 5 pictus', and a couple plecos in there. Would this be too much. Would it help to hook up another powerhead?

thanks for any info you can give me

Stick with only the Angels. Pictus like room (wide tank), Plecos get too big, but one would be OK.

personally, i'd go with one angel as a centrepiece, a nice size school of some tetra or barb, and a couple of bristlenose plecos for the bottom. tall sword style plants for the back and lots of crypts for the mid and front.

edit - clown loaches for that tank, i'd say no. they get big and they like to be in groups.

Not a fan of hex tanks and a large group of angels.

ah, i missed this part when the thread started.

your filter is rated for tanks between 30 and 60 gal, right? you really should have more filtration going. aim for a total filter rating of at least 1.5 times the tank size if your stocking the tank lightly. I always run two filters. And regarding the powerheads, they don't help at all with filtration, they just push water around.

maybe look into a good canister filter. Rena XP is a good one, IMO.

that does count as filtration, but UGFs can become bad bacteria time bombs if not cleaned out underneath on a regular basis and they are a pain in the tookus to maintain, IMO.

i personally don't like UGFs and prefer a canister for the majority of biological filtration and a big hob for filter floss/water polishing and surface disruption. for example, in a standard 55 i'm running a Rena XP2 and an Aquaclear 110 and no powerheads or airstones/bubblers. you can never overfilter! lol.

my power head is hooked up to an ugf , does that count?
Yeah, that counts as a filter.Running it reversed,so the water is pushed down through the tubes, and up through the gravel is a much better way to use a undergravel filter.
I would add a Hang On Back(HOB) filter to it.Or take it out,and run a canister and a HOB.

:iagree:

you guys would hate me if you seen how crowded my tanks are now but i am definetly going to give them more room. i like to be able to see them from across the room. Not going to get rid of any fish(there my buddies) they are all fat and healthy, very rarely there is a casualty(about every 3 months, but I will work on getting them more room Thanks for all the help(you all saved lots of frustration)
