I just got one baby silver arrowana from my lfs this afternoon and a bag of hikari carnivorous fish sticks for him.

My question is, do arrowana's not eat when they are watched? because everytime i am there by the tank he doesnt seem to eat them while when I am gone from the tank some of the sticks are gone. is this normal arrowana behavour or is it just my arrowana?

a) Arrowana's are not easily acclimated to prepared foods. They are highly carnivorous, and getting them onto prepared foods will take some work.

b) Arrowanas get 30+ inches as an adult. If you do not have at least a 150 tank lined up, take the fish back. Keeping it in a smaller tank is certain death. Even the 150 might not be big enough for an adult.

If you can provide the tank size, set up a tank and begin breeding guppies. Normally, I do not advocate feeding live fish, but for juvenile carnivores, is sometimes the only option. Once it's eating and healthy, you can begin training it on other foods.
