Once again behind the power curve. I grew my hair back months ago. Get with the program. Also you might try and be factual and say, "Today in my Fish Tank ".

That I did...but as usual...spit out the hook.
In answer to the original question...Managuense and most other cichlids can and will change color under different conditions. Most notably during breeding. Stress is another factor that can cause color change. Water quality (good or bad) can change the color of the fish. Some food additive like Astaxanthin pigment can be added to increase color of the fish. My guess is that they are still fairly young. As long as they have no other outward sign of problems...I wouldn't be concerned.

Yes, good pics...If I ever had a spare 90 gallon a managuense would be what I'd put in it, for sure!
@ Mojo (or anyone else who knows): How healthy are good additives? I mean I know astaxanthin is found naturally in food (or is xanthin the natural one) and gives fish their color, but is it recommended to add it to food? Are there any foods rich in xanthin besides krill (my fish generally hate the stuff)?

Nope. Not at all. Are you 100% positive that you have a male. I can't tell by the picture. DO you have a side shot of the fish?

what do you think.
It's either a feminine male or a masculine female.
No but seriously... That's a tricky one... I'm no expert but I would guess that it is a male judging by the markings on the fins and the shape of the head. But I could be wrong.

thats how i sexed it from the post i read
jag sexing (http://www.predatoryfish.net/ibforums/index.php?act=ST&f=24&t=46787&st=0)
It's a gold morph Managuense for sure. I agree with F176...it is tough to tell. I am leaning toward a female. The head shape is a lot different...as is the body height. Plus the females have a dorsal fin that starts farther back on their body. Here's a shot of my male when he was young.

Another male...gold morph:

And a female gold:

Either way it's a good looking fish. The only way to know for sure is to flip it over and vent it.
Good luck.

how can you tell its a gold morph
IN that picture, he's 7". I can tell by the coloration of the fish. Gold Morphs are yellowish gold...or as you can see in the male gold morph...that unusual brown.
