Well, your 55, if its the one your using as your signature seems to be pretty well stocked anyway. Just look around the net a bit, what looks cool to some of us may not to you, just find somethin ya like and then do a bit of research on it to see if it would go with your tank.

African tanks aren't usually good tanks for some of the weirder species of fish. They should really be kept as "species tank", but by that i mean only really fish from the lake you chose and maybe some bottom dwellers.

What do yo uconsider cool?

I always favored the Malawi Haps most and never really liked the Mbuna/Zebras....

It's been years (about 15) since I kept Africans, but I always loved the Peacocks (Aulonocara), Electric blues, Electra, Venustus, Livinstoni, Frontosa, Fenestratus, Burtoni, Moorii, Similis, Compressiceps, Rhodesii and some of the Tropheus varieties...

You may take it as negative but i'm just warning you. MSot of those fish get big, too big for a 55g.

ALl your questions could be answered if you jsut did a bit of research. Look through all the african cichlid sites and almost all the questions you have asked here would have been answered. Each fish has different needs and with africans the hard part if finding fish that mesh into a relatively peaceful tank. The only way to figure out which fish you think it best for your taste and tank is to do reaseach.

i knwo what yo uare saying catlid, bt trust me, its for the best. valerie's advise is much more valuable as she is warning you so that you dont have a large dilemma later on. id much prefer her negative advise than someone that knows nothing and comes along and says "sounds great, go 4 it".
just my 2 cents
Justin

You ask a question, then someone takes the time to answer it trying to give the best advice for the health and well being of your fish and you either dont' listen or call it negative. So what the point of asking for help if you dont' take the advide.

My comment wasn't meant to be negative i was stating most of those fish he said will get way too big for a 55g.Haps need large tanks since they are open water fish and like to cruise back and forth, Some of the haps he recommended get quite big and should be housed in somethign bigger then a 90g. The other ones like the frontosa shouldnt' be kept with mbuna and are more a species tank fish.

-from now on i wont' answer your questions

I personally would not mix zebras with haps, and neither with Tropheous, but there are people who do this all of the time without problems.

Also, many of these are very slow growing, especially the Frontosa. I've kept all of the above in a 55 gallon... not all together at once of course.

My intention was to give suggestions of ones I enjoyed and maybe she might want to consider. Of course I trust she will do a little research and determine what works best together.

Edit: I've removed the dig I had here originally since it was not very constructive.

That would be much more constructive and helpful.

I find great value in having discussions about a particular fish. Yes, there are many sites to use for reference, but often one site's facts will contradict another's. Also, with so many fish to choose from it's nice to get suggestions on where to start. It also helps to build a sense of community on the forum.

I have posted lots of links to site with info for catlid in many of his /her? other posts.

SayersWeb- Yes i know some of those fish can be kept in a 55g but not with the fish he alreayd has. Frontosa might be abel to be kept when small but they get 12"+ and a 55g is only 12" wide, not exactly a suitable tanksize. Some of the haps can go into a 55g but again not with the fish he has. I think C.moori,D compricessep,N.livingsstonii, jsut to name a few all get 8"-12", again too big for a 55g and not really compatible with the aggresive ifhs he has(bubblebee cichlids)

I wasn't sayign you shouldnt' have suggested the fish i would have told him more about them. Maybe suggest fish taht wold actualy work in his 55g with his current fish, fish mre suited for the begginner(i wouldnt' consider tropheus, or frontosa to be bigginer fish)
