In looking at the seafood section of my local grocery store I see that by weight, people food is way cheaper than frozen cubes of any variety.

I could pick up a bag of frozen seafood mix (shrimp, squid, octopus, clams, mussels) and throw it in the food processor.

Should I?

I dont see why not?? You could run it though the food processor and compress it into little blocks and freeze them.

I occasionaly feed my betta a little piece of uncooked salmon. He loves it. But just as a treat. The food you prepare lacks the vitamins that you would find in prepared store bought foods. So I guess as an occasional food it would be fine.

You probably could blend up some fish flakes with it to add vitamins and what-not.

I made my own food using the DIY shrimp food recipes as a guide. I used shrimp(shell and all), peas, carrots, zuchini. Then i bleanded it in a blender untill it was a paste, adding water if needed. I used agar agar(like gelatin but made from veggies), I tired it once with gelatin and it never geled(sp?) up. Other people on another board have also had probelms when using gelatin.

Here is a great thread about it. I used this thread as a guide when making mine.

Here is another article about food recipes. I tried the shirmp mix one from ths article and it didn't gel up. By folowing the info in the previous thread it turned out great.
