Vortex D-1

I run the d-1 on tanks 75-210 gallons... It just takes a little longer on the larger tanks... the d-1 can cleans my 75 gallon (I don't have a 90)within an hour or two...

I always try to go one filter size too big for my tanks, for some reason i have a 2.5 gal tank with 2 Mini Bio wheels, i know this is a complete waste of filters because I think one Mini Bio Wheel is can filter up to a 20 gal tank, but i got these for a extreamly low cost for a friend at a pet store. I havent changed the water in that tank for about 4 months and its still going clean. I wouldn't recommend anything this crazy for your tank, mabye a magnum 350 or somthing would do a good job. (the 2.5 gal is only for feeder fish :))

Forum, having two biowheels doesn't mean you dont need to change your water. Also, diatom filters are not regular filters and thus I dont understand the purpose of your post or why you would recommend a magnum 350.

I agree with Anton, the only will probably be the ammount of time you'll have to run the filter. The effectiveness will most likely not be reduced.

I have one of these filters and I have a couple of questions. How much of that powder do you guys recommend?Am I doing something wrong cause it takes a few days for it to clean out my 55 tank. The rate of water flow decreases so fast.I got it a few weeks ago cause everyone raved about it.The instructions are horrible that came with it.Keep in mind that I use it as a supplement filter and my tanks are maintained well already. If there is nothing wrong with this I am not impressed by this filter.Any input would be great. Thanks in advance

A Magnum 350 can also be used for microfiltration, it may not be quite as good as diatom powder but it works.
good luck
:)

Rockethead,
With the D-1 I use one cup. I experiance flow problems after a couple of uses... what I do is bleach the mesh bag to unclog it. If this doesn't work for you I have read of people having to modify the bag in order to get proper flow rates... I will see if I can dig up that discusion for you.
