I'll soon be tearing down my 75g planted tank. It has a Eheim ProII canister filter. The tank will be down for about a week before I set it up as a Malawi tank. Any suggestions on how to preserve the biological filter or should I just start from scratch. I will be transfering my fish load (small juvies) to a small 15g for the downtime.
Thanks!

the media from the filter wet somehow - take some of your old gravel put it in pantyhose keep it in the little tank for the time being this will save some bacteria

IMHO preserving an existing bio-filter is always less trouble than starting over from scratch.
You might go about it by treating the filter media as a very boring fish that you transfer right along with the juvies into the 15gallon holding tank.

Ive never had a Eheim filter, so this might sound stupid?
Can you just use the Eheim ProII on the 15 gal.?
