After almost a year of delays and construction my new home is getting close to completion, enough so that I can once again start thinking about my tank.

Here are the specs on my tap water, all numbers are parts per million, basically, is it usable or no if the plan is a starter reef tank

Alkalinity (CaCo3) 263
Hardness(CaC03) 272 (17 grains)
pH 7.6
Manganese 0.03
Iron 0.07
Total Solids 285
Sulfate 20.6
Sodium 6.7
Free Chlorine 0.5 - 1.0
Flouride 0.9 - 1.2
Potassium 7.2
Nitrates (N) 4.21
Calcium 152.6
Lead 0.0
Copper 0.0

TIA

The potassium is a tad high--might be prone to algae blooms, and of course you'll need to treat for the chlorine. Not sure about the fluoride?

Oriongirl,

Thank you for your reply. A tad high... what should I aim for, I can do a RO and tap mix to reach this point

How did you get these specs? Is this something provided by the water company or did you have it tested?
