Ok, i have 2 tanks, 55 gallon and 10 gallon. I had a Long Tenticle anenome in the 55 while the 10 gallon cycled... today i put it in the 10 gallon, along with some live rock and 2 fish. The LT is all small, like the size of a small apple. dont look good, the tank has plenty of light on it. bout 4 wpg, salinity is fine, 1.024
Is this just because its not used to the tank, maybe it come out a lil more, or is the sucka dieing? HELLLLP

anemones can expand and contract... see how it is in a little while.

Why would you move it to a 10 gallon? And how did you remove it from the 55 gallon. Did you pull it off the substrate hard?

Anemones do poorly in captivity in general but do worse in small tanks.

well he wasnt attached to the substrate, i removed it to put with a clown in the 10 gallon, but I believe the Nitrites were too high, threw him back in the 55 and he is doin ok now. IM hopin my tomato clown will like it

Are you acclimating?

for the LT, no acclimation, both tanks are same temp and all. He is thriving in the 55 gallon. i did a water swap using the water from the 55 to substitute in the 10, lowered Nitrites like instantly... so i think i will let it settle a few days and see how it does, The 10 gallon has some lil polyps i picked up that are coming out nicely, i think it just needs time to chill out

How long have these tanks been set up?

It isn't just a cycled tank that anemones need. Water quality is only one thing. They need well established tanks of a year or more that are thriving. They also need plenty of space and a 10 gallon tank isn't going to work. Clown don't need to have anemones to thrive in a captive tank either.

the 10 gallon been set up for about 4 months, the 55 about 2 months now. I havent heard of them needing a lot of space before, they just stick to a rock and sit there :). I would just like my clown to go in the sucker.

Do you know if the clown was tank-raised or wild-caught? Many times, tank-raised clowns will not pay any attention to anemones.

If they were captive-bred, they've probably been raised in a tank full of other clownfish and never really encountered a serious threat of any kind. Wild-born clownfish, on the other hand, would likely have learned to live in anemones to avoid predators.

That's not to say that captive-bred clowns won't eventually learn to live in an anemone...it could take months to find out. This all depends on the health of your anemone though - don't expect clowns to make a dying anemone their home.

They're wacky...that's why we call 'em clowns ;)

Heres the best quote i have heard for clowns, "A captive raised Clown Fish needs a Anemone as much as it needs a Bicycle"

Kinda funny, last night bout 4am, i had the LEDs shining on the tank a lil bit, caught the Clarkii basking in the LT anenome, first time ever... I was quite excited. :D
