is it normal to have low levels of nitrate in normal tap water? in between 5.0 and 10?

I don't know if its normal but it is not uncommon. Nothing to worry about.

I think it is normal. Same as having some phosphates and silicates.

It all depends on your water department. Call them and find if they are going to upgrade their systems. I have heard nitrates as much as 20ppm coming from Tap. Especially in some foreign countries where water quality isnt kept up as good as the USA and a few others...

ok thanx wasn't sure if that was normal. i was testing my tanks nitrate and it always is in the reds and they are hard to tell what the real lvl is so i thought i would test my tap water to see if the test was really working and i guess it is because the tap water came out around 5.0 - 10

i have around 10 ppm out of my tap. i wouldnt loose any sleep over it.
