View Full Version : Question about Fluval 204

I was given the opportunity yesterday to buy whatever I wanted from Hagen at their distributer prices. Since I'm planning to set up a 29g soon, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do some damage.

I ordered a Fluval 204 cannister filter among other things. It seems decent enough and I will likely be running it in conjunction with my penguin 125. My question with the Fluval is; Will I be able to attach a gravel vac to it in the same way you can with a HOT Magnum?

My original plan had been to get the hob model of the Magnums and a big selling point to me was the fact that I could clean the substrate without draining water. The Fluval doesn't advertise this feature but my guess is that as long as I could find the right tubing match up this would be doable.

Has anyone tried this or know if it can be done?

it should work if you connect the vac to the filters intake tube. but its gonna clog up the filter fast and its not as easy to clean as the HOB, they dont have the micron cartridge either so its not going to trap all the small particles. i would just do normal gravel vacs, adding fresh water is good for the fish too.

Thanks for the reply, Blitzen. Sounds like I'll be vaccing the standard way.

MY primary concern was actually being able to do a thourough vac job without sucking out half the tank. Its an issue with my 10g but now that I think of it, it probably won;t be a problem with the 29g since it has a smaller footprint (in relation to its height) than the 10.
