First some info on the tank:
The tank has been up and running for about 2 years now and everything is doing well. I have successfully kept leathers and mushrooms in the tank for a while. My crabs have all been molting and healthy. I’ve got a bunch of LR, but not sure how much, might be around 75lbs. I’m using aragonite reef sand for a substrate, and have probably only about 1.5” deep. The filtration has been two emperor 400s, with the bio-wheels until recently, and a small powerhead.

Now the questions:
I just got a RO filter system to start using on my tank. I also just bought a protein skimmer that I’ll be putting on the tank. I’d like to start adding more corals, mainly softies and other simpler ones. Now, do I need to start supplementing for chemicals being taken out by the skimmer?

Thanks for the help!

General rule--if you can't or aren't testing for it, don't add it.

How often do you do water changes? Regular changes are really the best way to maintain trace elements, and require no testing so you don't have to worry about over dosing.

Calcium and iodine are the only things I supplement. The iodine is for the xenia, which are noticable perkier with regular dosing.

Couldn't have said it better.

I dose only for Ca and alkainity, and let feedings and water changes do the rest.

Hmm... This gives me an idea for a poll...

Im doing water changes about every other week.

Thanks!
