I hear someone is setting up a 350 gallon for his 200 and 150 gallon tanks.
That would be one heck a fuge. :)
But what I am trying to say is, it doesnt matter what size you want for your sump. It can be anywhere from a few gallons to even larger than your main tank. As long as it suits your needs, go for it.

I'd just like to add IMO bigger is better when it comes to sumps. THe larger the sump the bio media you can put in, the less frequently you will have to top off the tank, and safer the system is if something goes wrong. A friend and I tried a 20 tall for a sump on a 75 gallon and we had to top-off almost daily because we were losing almost 1.5 gallons a day to evaporation, which is almost 10 percent of the sumps size.
Actually, it was a heavily planted tank, and I have since switched back to canisters for a few reasons, mostly because it is easier IMO. For a non-plant tank, it would be a different story, tho

As mentioned before depends on what you are using the sump for, but usually about 1/3 the size of the main tank will do really well.
