Hey Now everyone,

I just saved a female betta from an unknowing friend who bought the female so that her male would have a companion, if only he consulted me first!! Big mistake, and now the female's fins are shredded away. Will they grow back?
I have her in a three gallon eclipse and I am giving her the works...hopefully she will bounce back. She is eating great, still has the horizontal stripes, but I am hoping some color will come back soon. I just put her in the eclipse about a half hour ago.

take care,
Jared

As long as the water conditions are in good shape, she should recover. Feed a good diet, and monitor her for signs of infection.

I strongly discourage the use of medications for simple remedies such as a fish fight. I have seen numerous cases of fish getting into fights and all they need is clean water, and maybe some salt to help heal any open wounds.

The only reason I can think of that a fish WOULDN'T recover from such an attack is if the fins are shreaded down to the base. Then, this can create a problem.

This is sort of like the case when my barbs bit off a piece of my Kissing Gouramis back fin... As long as you feed it well and the water conditions are good, it should grow back without the use of medication.
