I saw some gold tetras at an LFS the other day. I hadn't heard of this particular variety before but they were beautiful. They were very reflective but had a rich gold color. The sort of fish you would expect Goldmember to keep :D

Is this some sort of dyed variety or are they just a rare form tetra that the shops around here don't normally carry?

Dat him?

Hemigrammus rodwayi, max size 1.5 in. Probably the same temperment as neons or cardinals.

I've got 6 in a community tetra tank with Neons, Congos, Columbian Blues, and H&T lights and they are fine. They chase each other a bit but leave the others alone. Although I think the chasing is two males because it is always one specific gold going after another smaller one. PH is about 6.6. Temp 79 deg F. A bit of aquarium salts to keep down on parasites and help with colour. Feed a mix of food. Flakes/Micro Pellets/Tropical Granuals/Bloodworms/Brineshrimp are all readily eaten. Really nice fish, but not very common.

Do the Gold's school along with the Neons? I think that would look so cool if you could get about 6 Golds and 6 Neons or Cardinals in a school together.......

I have 6 cardinals right now in one tank, in about a week I'll be adding some golds (hopefully). I'll make sure to take pics.

The gold tetras were spotted during one of my lunch hour excursions in RI.

The store is called Rumford Pet Center and they're on Warren Ave in East Providence right off of 195. Its a decent shop with about a 60/40 mix of fresh to salt water fish. They also have a decent selection of accessories and decorations.
