I am starting out a new salt water aquarium for the first time, i was hoping on adding some invertebrates. One specifically that came to mind was shrimp.

I am wonder what species of shrimp would be the best for my tank. I am looking for a peaceful shrimp. One that will help cycle my tank. One that will help clean my tank. And one that in general will be easy to care for.

Thanks

Let the LR you put in cycle your tank because inverts or at least shrimp dont do well during a cycle IMO. I would waite until your tank is well past the cycle before adding any shrimp. I like the cleaners and peps as they both seem to be rather hardy and the blood reds are great but hide alot and dont seem to be the hardiest IMO.

I like coral banded shrimp, but they can be mean. I wanted to get a cleaner shrimp, but my Marine betta would be after him so that is why I got a coral banded, he takes the Betta on. I even had one with a figure eight puffer that had been converted to saltwater and the first time the puffer came after the coral banded, the coral banded grabbed him and that was it he was scared of the coral banded after that.

i personally like cleaner shrimp or fire shrimp. both serve as cleaners and are quite active. I personally dont like banded shrimp because mine got to large and started praying on my hermit crabs :(

my cleaner shrimp is awesome...hes out during the day messing around and hes fun to watch and he crawls on my hand when i put it in the tank, and he eats out of my fingers too...overall very cool shrimp....at least for me... i tried a peppermint shrimp and he died after only 2 weeks....but the cleaner has been going strong for a couple months..
