View Full Version : Hoe do you feed fish using brime shrimp?
The packaging says to make sure none is left more than an hour in the tank. It's not like the fish will get half of it before it is dissovled? Comments welcomed! Thanks.

Figure how muct they eat in an hour andthen cut the cube to that size. I have a five gal that i just use half a cube for.

First off- thaw the stuff!
Thaw it on a paper towel or coffee filter- that juice they are packed in feeds nobody and just contributes to the organic load of the tank.
After it is thawed feed it bit by bit with a spoon or fork or anything. Watch them as they eat- this is your quality time with your fishies- enjoy it with them!
Don't just slap it in and walk away.

Okay, how about getting the shrimp to the African dwarf frogs, fish have figured out this is coming the frogs way and simply wait for it. I have got an air tube I use to send the shrimp down to them but they are so darn slow that most of it is gone before they have a chance ;)
Sorry for the thread theft :)

The method I use is to cut off a small portion of the frozen shrimp and put it in a cup half filled with tank water. I use the cap from Gillette shaving cream but any small cup will do.
It only takes a minute for the shrimp to thaw in the water. Then I dip the cup into the water and slowly pour out the shrimp little by little. The fish usually frenzy around it. This way, I don't get a lot of extra food in the water and what extra there is my shrimp and cories take care of later.
By now the fish recognize the "Red Cup of Food" to so it brings them to the surface whenever they see it.
As for the amount to feed it always best to start of with less than you think is reasonable. I've noticed the frozen shrimp seems to be deceptive in that it looks like a lot less food when its frozen.

Thank God that's never been a problem for me. My fish go nuts for the Hikari freeze-dried brine shrimp cubes. :p They eat about 2 cubes in 5 minutes. Hope you figure out a way though.
