Sea Shells

I would be careful to clean them pretty well before trying that - they can have a lot of stuff that you dont want in your water. I know some people who have done it and have not had any problems, but I think it would be good to clean them thoroughly nonetheless (and look for sharp/rough edges that the fish could injure themselves on)

I use seashells in my 10 gallon community...take them and scrub em really good and soak them in water and little bit of bleach. Then i boil them for a little while, rinse them off really good and toss em in!

i have seashells in all my tanks do all of the above and if they still have dead stuff in em, leave them outside for about three months and the ants will clean out the rest! That's what I did and all is fine :)

Nope! The are the SAME ones with no melting for all these years! If you think about it, shells last indefinitely in an ocean enviroment. Hermit crabs swipe to live in.... I have the same shells I have always had. Hmmmm....

BTW, When My shells really get a lot of algea on them, I bleach them in blrach & water, rise them well & then let them totally dry for a couple days and then put them back in. I do this with any other decorations that get any kind of algae on them too.... REALLY works! Very Cool!
