If you can buy the one for a larger tank, then do...you never know when you may get another bigger tank. :P

Like Raf said, if you can get the larger one, do so. I have an XP3 on my 55 and it works great.

i now you didnt mention this one but thought i woul share -
i recently put an aqua clear 500 on my 55 the thing can filter up to a 100g tank - my water is crystal clear now
