View Full Version : Too much light? :\
Well my 150 is in basically the family room, the tank gets some amount of light from outside. i have the lights turn on at 7(natural light comes in a little earlier) so i can feed them before i go to school. well the problem is people are in the family room till about 12 at night, with the tv on, computer, etc.
what im wondering is could the fish not be getting enough sleep?

don't worry about the light length, the fish will get enough sleep.
it's a common misconeception that because humans sleeping during the night, that every other animal does.
the truth is, that sleeping only at night is a very uncommon practice, used by only a handful of animals. humans if given proper conditions, will eventually take their sleep in two 4-6 hour shifts.
fish will generally sleep at around 10-15 minutes at a time, taking lots of quick brief naps. when they do sleep like this, what they generally do is send one hemisphere of their brain to sleep at a time (poutly can be seen doing this at times), so that they can keep swimming along, and avoid preditors, which will be out at night as well as at day.
hmm, iv never heard about that before, also i wondered because if i turn the lights on at night, most of the fish are lying on the bottem. i never see this during the day.
