Im getting a new tank soon gosh it seems im always spending money on these fish anyways
I have decided to get a new tank a 125 or 150 one question on that would the 25gallons make much more of a difference also so far teh only fish ill be transferring to the new tank is my GT and ive been looking around and I liked the looks of the jag's would there need 2 be two or would one be fine also i saw a really kewl looking red devil at my lfs but he was really big would that be fine in a 125 or 150.
If I had a GT a jag and RD would there be room for any more fish and ive also really like some of the bigger species of catfish ive seen like a red tail would that be to big.
Thnx alot:laugh:

If you combine all those cichlids together, there will be fight. And your GT will not survive.
GT gets about 9-10" big full grown.
RD gets 12-14" (I think)
Jag can be bigger than RD.
So...I guess this helps you to understand 125g tank will not be enough for these 3. Also, GT's temperament can't even match up with RD and Jag. IMO, Jag is more aggressive than RD.
I think you should think about what fish you really wanna add before you decide. If you plan on keeping GT, I'll suggest no RD and Jag.

jaguars are not good large cichlids to be mixing with other fish as they are true predators but there are literally hundreds of others.
since you are making the investment in a larger tank you might be willing to spend that extra to get something special.
check out the gallery at www.tangledupincichlids.com
they can get you just about anything cichlid. there are many fish on that list that i want so bad.
if you find one you want grab its name off the page and go to
www.fishbase.org and put in the name in the appropriate boxes (if you need help ask here)
or just come here for details and well do our best heh.
if you are going to stick with the GT then fish like jack dempseys texas a large oscar, convicts would work well.
if you wanted the Jaguar then you are going to need to work with a diffrent class of fish. Red devils, red terrors, vieja bifastium to name a few. just make sure you get them all as young as you can and put in tons of rocks and drift wood for hiding places. when you introduce them either do it all at once or when you at a new one re arange the tank so the territories are broken up. that will give you the best chance of keeping them alive.

ok ive been here before and i just couldnt remember the website name these fish are reall y nice(i think ill just sell the gt back to the lfs) so are u saying that a Jag and maybe one or 2 other fish would fit in a 150 or that i should get a little bit bigger of a tank say a 200 and then i could? ok and here are some fishi saw i liked
the Caquetaia spectabile, Caquetaia umbriferus, Heros efasciatus, Vieja regani those are some I really liked so would those be not aggresive enough or would they be fine?

Uhmm....umbie? That guy is big. Bigger than Jag. And it is very aggressive. More aggressive than Jag.
I'm not very familiar with Spectabile. Maybe more experience cichlids keepers can anser that. Or you can find out from Jeff Rapps. As for the Severum...it is like any severum. Not aggressive, IMO.

Ok im scartching the whole Jag and more predatory thing sorry if this frustrates you im just trying to get an idea of what I will be getting to make sure I get the right things(ive never had a tank anywhere around this size) im gonna go with the less agressive fish such as the GT now i was looking at that site and it would take me for ever to look up all those fish so could you give me and names of fish that you would like to have or maybe you could give me a good stocking list for a 150.

I keep my GT with Carpintis. Of course, eventually, my Carpintis need their own tank when they are fully grown.
If you want less aggressive cichlids, you can always try any of the Archocentrus species (except for convict). Convict is more aggressive than any of the Archocentrus I've kept, IME. Or you can try Thorichthys groups. These 2 species don't get as big as GT. With that size tank (assume you are getting 125g tank), you can keep more than 6 cichlids Archocentrus or Thorichtys.
Or you can try Severums. They max out around 6-8". Jeff Rapps right now has the True Severus, delayed mouth brooder. And severums are colorful. I have a few myself. My red-head severum is the most outstanding one. Of course, if I get others, they are probably more beautiful than my current red-head.
If you still wanna keep your GT, I'll say...give the Carpintis a try. You will like that fish. It is very colorful. Click on the pix that said Herichthys Carpintis 'Escondido' to see for yourself. And you can add either Salvini (shy but can be pretty aggressive...can hold his own ground) and Jack Dempsey.
Or you can try Gymnogeophagus or Geophagus species. I have a few. Mine aren't that aggressive, but there are some can become bullies.
Copora Nicaraguense is beautiful and mild temperament, from what I heard. You can add this fish with Severums.

The Herichthys Carpintis 'Escondido' are very pretty I think i would like to get 2 of those and i have decides to get a 150gallon so i was reading and one place said they get 7inches and the other said 10 which ones true also would any of the geophagus mix with them cause i saw sum really pretty ones like the geophagus iporangensis and the geophagus itapicurensis.
If they wont mix ill go back and do some more research on sme other ones to see what you think and one last thing with the 2 carpintis in there how much other fish coul di fit in there saying all the fish were around 6-8 inches?

Carpintis can get as big as 10" if you feed the fish the right food and live in good environment.
Are you planning to keep GT in the tank?
I don't think geophagus can mix well with these cichlids you wanted.
Possibly 4 more cichlids you can fit in the 150g tank.

ok so you want somethign that is going to be pretty peaceful but with larger fish.
look at the (something) neetroplus, heros severum, archocentrus genus (other than the convicts), thoricthys are good they are varients of the firemouth and can be very beautiful. there is one in particular that I like but cant remeber the name of.
a selection of those would go well together and they dont get to large so you could have more.
geophagus types could also go with most of those types.
nearly all these top out at about 8inches or less.
I know you want parachromis (jaguar etc) types but they are extremely aggresive fish.
if you wanted to go with them then a 200gallon would be good and you get them as young as possible but you could only have one or two. and then you through in a bunch of dithers like a shoal of silver dollars or convicts or something.
just expect them to get massacred.
