gold barbs are destorying plants

I got four gold barbs last friday. They still don't know that food comes in the morning, so they've been missing feedings. In result, they have uprooted most of my java moss. I have some new bulb plants in there, and I'm worried that they may also be nibbling at the new growth. Are there any tricks for "teaching" these fish when chow time is? I'm going to try some zucchini right now, see if I can fill them up on that.

...yeah... that's pretty much what the fish store told me too. I'll have to bear the lost of my plants until the barbs get the program down.
