Ok here's one I haven't taken to the LFS yet.
Does any one make a latch or lock for the lid on the tank cover? It seems that one of my cats figured out how to open the tank cover. Fortunately I was there the first time he did it and I put tape on the lids to keep him out. But that is not very attractive. I can probably devise something with Velcro but if there is already something on the market it will save me some trial and error time. besides I don't want to come home from work and find a wet cat and empty tank.:shake:

I've never seen one, just did a quick search online, sounds like you are going to have to make your own, which shouldn't be too hard. Is it a glass top or plastic type? I can't see how a cat could open the glass ones.

I can't provide much help on this subject, but I think your cat and the one that lives with me may be related :p

Hey, could always replace the cat with a catfish, then it being in the tank would be no problem. :D

Sorry, just kidding... But seriously, if it is a glass top, that is an amazing feat, seeing as how those tend to be quite heavy. With plastic, I could see that happening. A few options that come to mind right away are as follows:

One of those nifty, nice looking wooden tops that match the stand (sorry, my vocabulary has left me for some reason and can't think of the name of it) and go over the top of your tank. One of those would look nice and be way too heavy for a cat to budge, as well as the fact that if your cat was in some way able to open that too you could put a latch on it very easily.

Secondly, if your hood is somewhat flat, just put a relatively heavy decoration that you wouldn't mind seeing on your tank on top of it, so that the cat would have a very hard time doing anything.

Sorry, that's all I could think of that might work. HTH

Thanks for the help but it looks as if I'm gonna have to come up with my own solution. The "stand" is home made my husband is quite handy with a hammer and knows what to do with a saw. So a matching hood although not totally out of the question is just not a the top of his" to do" list. and I do like the one that came with it yea its plastic but it matches the wood work in the kitchen/dining room (and I do have a lot of wood work) and it fits into the tight space its occupying nicely. Oh and the cat (kitten really he's just 11 months old) prefers to case the fish along the side of the tank and mostly just lays on top.:p
