My wife must think i am crazy , i have been looking for hours at the rock with a magnifying glass, i saw white worms with 2 antena, about 20 little snail (i think it is) 1 or 2 mm long, with only my eyes i dont see much, but with the magnifying glass WOW !!!

I just ordered some this last week from this site:
http://www.oceanproaquatics.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/130

Couldn't believe the price!!! Can you believe, 46-48 pounds or so of Fiji LR for $119? Supposed to be the premium stuff too. Can't wait to get mine. Supposed to ship on Monday, will probably get it same/next day because I'm only a couple hours drive away from the place (didn't want to fight my way into LA though and waste a tank of gas, so just paid the 12 bucks to have it shipped).

Night viewing is the BEST and a red light will work just fine. And no, you're not crazy...at least not on this forum ;)

I hope that rock is cured prior to intro to tank otherwise that rock wouldn't be so cool if it destroyed your tank. Anyway, congrats, and good luck with it and the its critters.

I'm an "anytime viewer".
I only have live rock and a clean up crew in my package from Tampa Bay Saltwater and I can sit here and stare for hours. At first it was a tentacle here, an antennae there- soon it was wormy things and crawly things- the fun never ends!

When I leave my job everyday co workers say "enjoy staring at your rocks" as they know that's what I'll be doing.
I hope it eases up a tad- the house could use a bit of cleaning!!

:duh:

Red lens! Why didn't I think of that? I also watch rocks after dark, but the white light from the flashlight eventually spooks the critters and puts an end to my nocturnal aquatic voyuerism. Then again, the fact that they get spooked means I get to go to bed eventually

My kids and myself watch the rock ALL the time.tons of stuff in there to look at.you could try using moonlites, they work great and youll definately notice a difference in night time activity.Their only like 1 watt each so it gives you enough to see but doesnt spook the critters.even my serpent stars are flitting around the tank like mad.Crazy to watch rock?..I say interesting.By the way,if your wife isnt into it as much ,of course she'll think your crazy. My wife is the same way,she tells her friends that im a rock geek,or reef nerd.I just tell them....THATS RIGHT,But do you have your own slice of the ocean in your house????KEEP WATCHING.You can find the moonlites on ebay pretty reasonably priced in some of the stores.Their worth their weight in gold!!!!!

Gee,
I hope your wife will sit down with you at some point and get hooked. It has been great fun for the two of us to sit and watch the tank as it has evolved. New things would appear out of the rock for at least a year. There is always something happening!

A few nights ago, we got a special show, as we caught the clowns laying another clutch of eggs. We stared with our jaws wide open, until we sprinted to the kitchen to rescue our burning dinner.

It's also a great distraction for visiting kids. Quiets them right down.

I know what you are saying about the moonlight, i just put two blue led in my hood.

And for my wife, she think its very beautiful and love SW fish, but she is not into it as i am.

She just enjoy looking at the tank, not the critters, and she dont care about the chemistry involved in the hobby.

Anyway. :)

I will surely have to try a moon light. I hardly ever get to see my brittle stars. And lots of creatures don't even like my dimly lit burnt out flash light.

Thats it where do you get this rock with all the critters on it. I get rock that has great coraline alge on it from my LFS but I have looked at my tank at all hours of the night and day with everything from blue and red led flashlights to sneaking up on it with a maglight and the only thing i see is my fish and sometimes i can catch my emerald crab out. My star only sticks one arm out to get food and then it gets pulled back in the hole in the rock he has called home for a month. I want critters. LOL. Where oh where do i get critter filled rocks?

Reminds me of a house sitter we had--he called the tanks the 'windows', and spent hours just staring at our tanks.
