my 20 gallon filter stopped wrking after i did matienence on it, its a whisper power filter( model c), is water not supposed to get in the motor, i did that accedentally, but is thier anyway i can fix this?:o

im aslo using a backup filter, but its only for 2-5 gallons

Does the motor run, but not the impellor, or is there no hum at all?

I'm not familiar with Whispers, but I mucked up my AquaClear with too much sediment and the impellor stopped. The motor was still running but the water was not. I gave the impellor a few nudges with a toothpick and it kicked back in. Its been running fine since then.

nope no sparks or anything, but mabey yuor right aoubt the evaporationg thng, thanks

well what exactly did you do to it other than get the motor wet?

if you plug it in and absolutely nothing happens (not humming/vibrating/etc.) then there's not much you can do but wait for it to dry out and see if it starts after that.

but if it is vibrating just not pumping start looking for stuck/broken pieces and see if you didn't accidentally jam something while working on it.

when i plug it in it starts up, but it makes this wird c-c-k-k-k sound like every two seconds, and no water goees through, luckily if i cant get it to work, its got a 2 year warranty on it, i can take it back and exchange it for a new one

It sounds like the impeller is jamming. Make sure there's no grit or gravel or chewed up plastic blocking it. If it looks clear give it a few nudges with a coffee stirrer or a toothpick, sort of like starting an old prop plane-- thats what mine did and thats how i fixed it. Don't let the motor run like this for a long time or you may burn it out.

there was hair wrapped around the the little propeller thing, never hold a cat before you do matience, and also, you have to pour water into the filter before it will start sucking water up. my filter is squeaky clean, and has created a current so powerful it makes my live plants lean over a bit. even on "low", thanks guys :)
