OK I just got off the phone with J&L Aquatics. Wanted to order 20,000 k bulbs. They told me I cannot run the regular 20,000 in my hood because of the type of ballast. So they give me other options not listed on their site. One is Sun Aquatics 20,000k bulb for 48 dollars. Or 10,000k Venture for 164 dollars. The 20,000k HQI would have cost 124 but that is the one they say I cannot run. They tell me the 10,000 Venture is more like a 12 to 14,000k. But that one is expensive. The 20,000k Sun Aquatics they cannot tell me what it will turn out like. But it is very cheap. So does anyone have any experience with these bulbs. I am very tempted to try the cheap ones and take the risk. They say they are made in China is why they are cheaper.
