Does it rot? Is it basically just a dead fish?

Anyone kept a starfish shell in a tank before?

It won't last, and unless you collected it yourself, I'd worry that it was treated somehow--would want to add that to the tank! The star fish 'shells' are not very durable, and will break down in water. Star fish don't have a true bony shell, like a snail or clam. The ones sold at stores are dried out, and often preserved chemically.

Nope--I'm Answer Woman. They even gave me a cape to wear at work. I drew the line at the red tights, but the thigh high leather boots and bustier are nice.

it's lookin' a lot lighter in here! Hooray!

:p

btw: one of the starfishes had completely broken down in a little over 24 hours! The larger one, I took out immediately. This is my 39glln damsel tank, in the process of creating a new bio-cycle using Pacific Mexico beach sand!

It's great. The puffers in Mexico are brilliant and completely bold.

Is is possible to shelac a starfish and keep it in the tank? I would really like to put a starfish in a couple of my Betta bowls to make them look like a little salwater paradise but I don't want to hurt the fish. I know that there has to be some sort of substance that you can use to coat the starfish watertight in order to place it in an aquarium. I believe that it's shelac that they actually use to make butterscotch. They also use it to coat baby beds so that the little ones don't get poisoned if they chew on the wood. I wonder if it would be safe to put in an aquarium? I don't see why not. I would just like some input if y'all have any.
