29 Gal tank...
3 Serpae Tetras
6 Albino Tiger Barbs
3 Emerald Green Corys
we are looking for some more fish choices for our tank.. possibly another school, an otto and a centerpiece fish or pair?
What other schooling fish would be good to put in there and what would be a good centerpiece fish or pair?

Maybe dwarf Gouramis...I think one Red Tailed Shark would work in a 29, but they stay near the bottom, or at least mine usually does. Some people say they're aggressive, but mine usually doesn't bother any fish unless they come into his "house," which is a flat rock laying on top of two other rocks. However, he doesn't mind the cories going in there (maybe he thinks they're his maids :p) and other fish pass through unnoticed at times. Red tailed sharks use "landmarks," such as driftwood, rocks, etc., to set up their territory, so as long as he has some to go by, he shouldn't be all over the tank harrassing other fish. However, you can only have one, and no similar looking fish (chinese algae eater, flying fox) could be in the tank. I don't know if otos would fall into this group or not. I think that you could also put two angelfish into a 29, but the tiger barbs and serpae tetras may be too nippy. A pair of rams would be a possibility, as long as your water is stable enough for them.

I am partial to a school of danios (very fast and active) and as a centerpiece I would go with either the rams or perhaps two angelfish.

I dont know about the danios and angelfish mix, thats never turned out well for me in the past, especially with the tiger barbs, since there arent really enough of them to keep them from nipping.
a gold gourami or a couple dwarf gouramis would look good, but add a couple more tiger barbs so they quarrel amongst themselves and not with the gourami or whatever you put in there.

if we got either the green or normal tiger barbs would this work too? would they all school together?
2 angels sounds good, no problems with them or others being aggressive to them?

I'd be leery of the tiger barb and angel combo. A school of differnt colour variations of tiger barb would be really nice though if you are looking to brighten the tank of. They come in many colour variants of the same fish all of which can be mixed. Just watch out for dyed albinos.

serpae tetras are almost as nippy as tiger barbs imo/ime, not fish you want with fish that move slow/ have long fins
with those two in the tank I would direct you to look at a 3 or 4 inch cichlid to go with them
I don't have much expirience with cichlids but there are those that do here

I currently have 5 tiger barbs, 2 green tiger barbs, 2 albino tiger barbs, 4 serpae tetras and 3 black ruby barbs along with a gold gourami, 3 giant danio's and 2 green banded danio's in my 36 gallon. the gourami is the most aggressive but when I tried to transfer our congo tetras the barbs couldn't help themselves from nipping the strands off their tails. The serpae's and barbs all school together just fine and the danio's hold their own as well being much larger than the others. I'm happy with the mixture in the tank. I also have a pair of cory's and a few ottos to clean up and they all get along just fine except when an otto swims through the open water and the danio's follow them but never do any damage. Kyle
