Hello all:

I have seen the DIY closed loop water circulation systems that some of you have been creating, and am interested in this in my tank future plans. The white PVC, however, seems a bit harsh to the tank's aesthetics. Have any of you painted pvc that is submersed in the saltwater, and if so, what kind of paint is non-toxic and long lasting in this situation. Any responses would be of interest. Thanks.

Interesting idea. I think that you could use a latex paint, and then coat it with a marine grade epoxy to seal it-but you would have to make sure you coated it completely with the epoxy. There are also colored marine grades of paint (Epoxy Paint by Sweetwater is one brand)--check a boating supply/building place, or www.aquaticeco.com ). You could also use the black PCV--might be less obstrusive, and safer than painting. The one thing that could be a problem is the stuff that will encrust the tubing--coralline algae, tube worms, etc. You might have problems cleaning them off, should you ever choose to.

Most people don't paint the pvc for the reason orion girl stated. The pvc will stay white for 6months at the most before it is covered in coraline algae.
