What are the possiblities of putting some driftwood found in the ocean in a freshwater tank? Is it possible to condition it so that any salt of contaminants would not affect the fresh water tank?

I ask because the ocean is only 2 miles from my house and there tons of beautiful pieces to pick from.

It would probably be ok, just soak it for a week or so in a bucket so it gets weighted down so it will sink. And change the water everyday so the salt that leakes from it doesn't build up and get it saccurated, or it would just take longer. So, it would be ok if you follow that, and clean it very well

You might want to add white vinegar (1:10 in water) to the next-to-last soak. Kills most of the bad microbes but not enough to let fungus take over.
