If you are only buying a few pounds might as well do so via a good LFS.

I think what Rudy meant was that if you only want a few pounds then it would be so easy to get it from the LFS. IF you have a good LFS.
i dont have a good lfs. i have to drive a few hours one way to get to a good one.shipping price is ok because i need some other things also.
Seems to me there is a couple of good places in FL that ship LR, LS, and stuff like that. Anyone remember the names of some of those places?

When shipping FedEx you can expect a minimum charge here also. FedEx has a 20 Lb. minimum which will cost you $54.00 for a box up to 20 Lbs.Due to our box sizes, After that it’s $2.70 per Pound. So while they may not be the best value for shipping rocks and wet sand they do have an advantage when shipping plants and animals. These are light weight and they will be brought right to your door.
so for a 17 dollar order of LS i will have to spend around 70+.

get a cup or two of sand from a tank(s) that's been set up for a while. the critters and bacteria will turn your sand into live sand. You can also count on there being some infauna on your live rock as well. It might not be instant but your sand will be live sand in time. You can prbly find some of the bigger sifters at your lfs and you'll be good to go.
