i read somewhere (dont remember where) that if you have a biowheel, you dont need an airstone. it said that the biowheel is sufficient to oxygenate the water. is this true?

Any filter that agitates the surface of the water will oxygenate the water. The more agitation, the more opportunity for oxygenation. So, with pretty much any h.o.b. filter you won't need an airstone for oxygenation.

Very true, any filter which has been recently manufactored can handle oxygenating the aquarium if its working properly and is cleaned. ;)
