Maybe like humans use the 2 chinese balls to circle in their palms thereby relieving stress...my Brittle star is doing the same? He picks up the spherical substrate and rolls one around with his feelers.

Is he relieving stress? Looking to play catch? Amazed how round the substrate is?

Thinks it's tasty? Dunno--goofy behavior, but it could smell tasty.

Does your Brittle ever move during the light-hours?

Mine move- aggressive little buggers when the food touches down!

I think he is just trying to determine what it is foodwise.

Mine moves aorund more at night, but when he gets hungry, he comes out and begs. A tentacle starts poking out from the corals, and I'm trained to dump in some algae tabs for it. For not having much of a brain, it's smart enough to keep me in line.
