Alright,

I have two gold stripe maroon clowns, a 3-4" one (Damien) and a 1-2" one (Hiccup). They are a mated pair, who are making nests to possibly lay fry. The problem is they love the long tenticle anemone. About 2weeks ago the anemone lost a fight to the filter intake and I thought it was dead. I put it in a hospital tank for a night to see if it was moving, it was. I put it back in the 29gallon tank since I couldn't give it medication and anyway I have power compacts on the 29gallon. The anemone is damaged, BUT ALIVE. It's been doing better every day. It was hard to get to eat, but after about 5days I hoaxed it into eating shrimp. Then he was hard to feed for 4days, couldn't hold on to it because its tenicles aren't strong and becuase my CLOWN FISH LOVE IT AND WON'T LEAVE IT ALONE FOR A SECOND. So when the anemone isn't eating and is just being ravaged by the clowns, while they make they're nest... its just being pushed all over the place to the clowns liking, and I know they're going to do that, but I want my anemone to heal so it can at least stand up without being knocked over like it is now. He did climb across the tank and go on a rock last week but that was the extent of it. Sooooooooo I bought a in tank refugium... its great, I think its 8" x 3"x8" aprox... big enough for my anemone, it has a power head in the side and crushed coral... since the sand was being blown out. So the anemone is in this thing, the clowns can still see it... without bothering it, its closer to the lights, it ate the first night... all is good. NOPE!!!! About twice a day since i got it (2days ago) Hiccup has been in the refugium. I told you, stupid problem... the refugium is under an 1/8th of an inch below the water line, its recomended so there isn't a water mark on it after water evaporates and junk. Anyway Hiccup would have to jump almost out of hte water to get in there, but I have a glass lid so I don't know how hes doing it. All I know is that I have to take the anemone out sometimes with Hiccup sleeping in it and put it in the tank to put the anemone back in. But this isn't good for the fish or the anemone, the long tenticle anemone has been doing so much better even in the last two days with this and I'd like for him to heal all the way before the fish go nuts. Hiccup is small so it doens' tmove the anemone around but Damien just stares in it and I'm sure he doesn't like that. Sorry this is long, any ideas on what to do??? My aneomne eats in this thing so I don't want to keep him out of it till he heals.

Anemones very seldomly heal if they are hurt/damaged you'll have to make sure your water quality is first rate and hope. I really wouldn't move it any more than I had to they don't adjust really well so leave it out of the hospital tank. It should do ok in the fuge as it's the same body of water. As to harrasment by the clowns well that's sort of a thorny issue now isn't it? You probably got them for the same reason I got mine to watch them interact. It MIGHT hellp the Anemone to remove the clowns to your hospital tank. It will give him a chance to recover,"if it's going to and I hope it will". They can adjust to the move much better than he does. Is he ripped or does he have any tears or punctures in his body? How is it reactin I understand you say it's weak and unable to hold on the rock and that your c.f. moves it around to suit itself,"not good". Is it's foot torn and how big is it in relation to the fish. If he's too small you might have to seperate them till he can grow up a bit. Their constant attention to him might be very detramental to it's health in a weakened state however unless there is a large size difference they probably aren't the cause although from the sounds of it they are exasperating the situation.
Hope this helps you
Chris

Oh no no no no no... hes not torn, no holes... no rips his *stem* ?? or bottom part of him is in tack and thats all fine its just some tenticles looked pinched at the ends, about 10... and a few are really small, kinda as if they are just growing out. but no hes not torn or in half, and doesn't have the affects of a car accidnet. it was just being pulled into the filter intake, only the tenticles... which seemed to be on one side more or less which is why I think with the off balance of stronger ones is why its hard for him to hold on to the food, expecially with the fish. The clowns are fine for it, when I got the anemone a month ago it was open to it's full extent, I'll post a pic of how big it was and when it was moving, I don't have a pic of htis right now. my lights are off, i'll wait till tomorrow to tak e apic of him and then you can see I don't think its life threatening, since hes still eating and opening and closing, letting hiccup sleep in him. But I know the situation for it is bad.

HEY! I can't post the pic again but heres all the pics I have posted on this other thread, check them out please for the size difference, though the anemone is ALOT smaller now, only because it doesn't spread out. other thread with pics (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=22151)

What would concern me the most is that he can't hang on. They do grow new tenticle from time to time and they also will shrivel up and re-expand "to no apparent ill affect in my bubble tip". The reason I was concerned so much about the holes is the fact that he's having such a hard time hanging on. That's why I was wondering about a hole in his foot. You said that he's eating that's good hmmm is he new? Sometime they will mope for a while till they adjust to your lights etc... If I think of anything else I'll let you know. PLEASE keep us posted I love anemones ," Yes I've killed one :( ". Please don't take my post as gripping I was just runnig down the check list."
Best of luck
Chris

Hes been in the tank for one month today, the bigger clown damien was intruced a month from tomorrow... hiccup was introduced 3 weeks ago. well... the anemone hangs on to the rock but when its on its side, it doesn't stand up straight and hang on, i think its the clowns moving him into the deep nest they are making. Stupid clowns. The anemone is back in the refugium i'll post i pic i figure, sicne the lights are on again. The anemone was just placed back in and the lights are on so it doesn't look as good as it did, say at 3pm today but it gives you an idea.
