Tonight, when I was at my fish store, I realized that they had a tank of very nice looking gold rams. They looked great, but I can't seem to find any info on them. I would like to pick up three to replace my six white clouds with. They would be with barbs, cories, rasboras and a gourami, so I'm sure they will be fine. Can someone tell me how large these will get?

I would prefer to add some blue rams, though. To sort of inhance the colors of my dwarf flame gourami. Would I be safe doing so in a 20g? I was pretty fully stocked with the six white clouds.

i have two gold rams - their the same in terms of size as blue rams -
when they start to color up they look unbelievable - one of mine has electric blue flecks all over his body and his lips are blue his fins now have orange and his body is golden yellow- my suggestion is if you buy them young try to pick the most colorful ones - because he at the time was just goldish - he didnt have all the other colors - then the other one i bought was sort of pale-ish and still is but she has blue flecks on her fins -

thank you. Oh, they sound spectacular. I think the golds would look better in my orange themed tank than the blues. The little guys at my store are pretty colorful. When I got rid of my white clouds, I wanted to replace them with something that had some blue to bring out the fins of the gourami, but not too much so that they would be out of place. Does three sound about right for my tank? They have been there for a few days, and all look very healthy (about 12 of them) I was told that the rams stay for a while too, so I can give them a few more days as well.

i woul stick with two per tank - i bought four and they bickered two died eventually - i think they were the weaker strain bred from asia - anyhow if they reach maturity and pair up - i've been told the dominant pair will harrass the submissive pair to death -
how big is your tank?

It's 20g. I'll get two then, I was thinking that three may be pushing it a little bit on stocking anyways. I had to contain myself from picking them up this afternoon, I'll probably swing by this evening and get them, though. I have my tank all ready for them. Bumped the temp up to 82, checked my water, very happy to see the hardness at 7 (thank you RO water) so its all ready for them.

plus, the tank looks empty now with out my little white clouds. I didn't know I'd miss them until they were gone. :(

picked up two today. I stared at their tank for a good ten minutes, and picked two fine specimens. One stood out from the others, he was so much more colorful, I made sure the guy working got him. Then the other just seemed to have an awesome personality, and had very perky fins. Snatched him up too. They are cruising around the 20g now. They seem happy so far, just like I am. I've been wanting rams for so long, and I finally got a great looking pair.

now try feeding them new life spectrum small fish formula for community fish - man this stuff will color them right up!!! since i started feeding my tank this my rams almost look salt water-ish!!!

can you tell me what the scientific name for these rams are?

new life spectrum small fish formula-- what exactly is that? sounds interesting.

I don't know the scientific name for the gold rams, its hard to find any information on that spiecies of ram. Mikrogeophagus ramirezi is the name for the blue ram, and they are in the cichlid family.
